Rockville Under Siege

by

I found these two images on the website for the newspaper in Harrisburg, The Patriot, submitted by an uncredited reader. I spent many hours of my childhood at the western end of Rockville Bridge watching trains with my grandfather, J. Clair Witmer. While this flood didn’t get as bad as the aftermath of Hurricane Agnes in 1972, when large portions of the Pennsylvania Railroad were taken out of service permanently, it’s still quite a dramatic depiction of a solid bridge standing against the raging waters.
